Portal is owned by the Branco family, Eugénio Branco, a CPA (chartered public accountant) from Porto and his two sons João and Pedro Mansilha Branco. The history of the company is related with the history of the family that has been producing Port Wine for more than 100 years at its Quinta dos Muros property. They start increasing the vineyard area and bought more properties - Quinta da Abelheira in 1979 and Quinta do Confradeiro and Quinta do Portal in 1991.

A Single Quinta Vintage Port is made from Quinta do Portal and the company also makes a Vintage Port named Portal, which is mixed from several vineyards.

In the Vintage Port named Portal Plus, only young stocks of Touriga Nacional grapes from Quinta dos Muros were used.
