Manuel da Silva Reis & Cia. Lda

Owner Silva Reis family
Vineyards Quinta das Carvalhas

When Manuel Silva Reis was 13 years old in the mid-1930s he got a job in the Port Industry. He was hard working and worked his way up some times with a bit too smart ideas. In 1956 he became general manager of the Souza Guedes & Irmao Port Company which he took over later on. In 1960 he bought the Real Companhia Velha and in 1963 the table wine company Real Vinicola. During the1960s and 1970s he bought 13 different wine companies but the Carnation Group of 1974 signified that he had to go into exile in Brazil but he returned to his company and bought Suosa Guedes & Irmao in 1975 and in that bargain Quinta das Carvalhas was included. His son Pedro entered the company in the 1980s.
